Q: What is GroupStart?
GroupStart is an event aimed at starting brand new small groups. During this 2-week event, we create a relationally focused environment where new small groups can develop.
Q: When is the next GroupStart?
The next GroupStart happens over the course of the following 2 weeks:
February 1, 2018 (6:30-8:30pm)……….GroupStart Night 1
February 8, 2018 (6:30-8:30pm)……….GroupStart Night 2
Q: When does registration close?
Registration will close Sunday, January 21st at midnight.
Q: Why do we do GroupStart?
We believe that a small group can be very significant in the life of a follower of Jesus. The reason that we do GroupStart is to help people connect with a small group where they can begin to develop Christ-centered relationships with others. At GroupStart, we try to remove the typical barriers that keep people from joining a small group.
Q: What happens each night of GroupStart?
- Participants meet their new group
- Eat dinner together
- Play an interactive game that allows group members to get to know one another
- Eat dinner together
- The Small Groups staff will help guide the groups as they discuss the next steps for the group
Q: How many people are in a small group?
Most groups will have approximately 8-10 people.
Q: Will I be expected to talk?
Because GroupStart is primarily relational and conversation-based (as opposed to content-based), we do expect participants to contribute to the conversations. But don’t worry – we try to make it easy to participate.
Q: Do I have to come every night?
While the event is designed for participants to attend both nights, we understand that sometimes life happens. If you are unable to make it to a certain night, we ask that you let us know by emailing Bryan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: Where does GroupStart happen?
The event takes place in the main sanctuary at Calvary Chapel Chattanooga (3415 Broad Street).
Q: Is childcare provided?
Yes, childcare will be provided for infants through 5th grade.
Q: Is dinner provided?
Yes, dinner is provided for both participants and children each night of GroupStart.
Q: How do groups form?
We use the information provided by participants in the registration forms (age, preferred group-type, geography, etc.) to form groups.
Q: What happens after GroupStart?
After the 2 weeks, we strongly encourage groups to continue meeting as a short-term small group offsite (ideally at one of the group members homes) for an additional 4-weeks. These 4 weeks give everyone a chance to see if this group is going to be a good fit. After the 4-weeks, each group then decides whether or not they’d like to commit to becoming a longer-term small group. While our ultimate goal is that these short-term groups will turn into longer-term small groups, we fully realize not every group will become a long-term group.
Q: Is childcare provided after GroupStart?
While we cannot provide actual babysitters after GroupStart, we can provide funds to help cover the cost associated with the babysitting. We don’t want childcare to prohibit anyone from participating in a small group.
Q: How much does it cost to attend GroupStart?
$10 for individuals
$15 for couples
